At the recent American Association of Orthodontists Annual Session, one of the current topics of conversation was faster tooth movement. The last 25 years have produced some dramatic improvements in orthodontic treatment. Included in this list would be improved bonding cements, ceramic brackets, self-ligating brackets, super elastic arch wires and Invisalign (to name a few of the improvements). Orthodontic treatment, however, still takes about 18-30 months to complete for most patients.
Among the ways presented to accelerate tooth movement was a system developed by a company named AcceleDent. (http://acceledent.com) The technology to safely accelerate the bone remodeling process is based on long term research in orthopedics and the AcceleDent Aura device has been used worldwide since 2009. It has been approved for use in the United States by the FDA and the procedure is feasible for most patients. The AcceleDent Aura device works by means of a patented “Soft Pulse Technology”. These “Soft Pulse” micropulses are gentle, with a force which is 8 times less than the force of a power toothbrush. The device is worn for 20 minutes per day and it delivers precisely calibrated micropulses to gently accelerate the movement of the teeth during conventional and orthodontic Treatment.
