History of Braces

Did you know that people began to straighten their teeth as far back as 300 B.C. in ancient Greece? Even Aristotle and Hippocrates discussed ways to get a better smile. Dentists first invented tools that would straighten teeth in the late 1800’s, but Orthodontics, as we know it today, did not start until 1900 when Dr Edward Angle, the father of Orthodontics, founded the Angle School of Orthodontia in St. Louis, Missouri . Since then the orthodontic field has grown into a rewarding specialty that gives thousands of kids, teens, and adults a beautiful smile. Stay tuned for our next post about Dr. Meharg and his team at Franklin Square Orthodontics.
