First Visit

What To Expect

We can’t wait to welcome you to Franklin Square Orthodontics!  We want you to tell us about you! What brings you or your child into our office and what concerns do you have? Once we have an understanding of this, we will take pictures and x-rays as needed and Dr. Lauren Vitkus and Dr. Michael Meharg will conduct a thorough clinical orthodontic examination.

The Purpose of the Initial Examination is to Answer:

  • What sort of problem is present, if any?
  • When is the proper time to begin treatment?
  • What type of treatment is indicated?
  • How long will treatment take?
  • How much will the treatment cost?

What’s Next?

If treatment is recommended, we will review with you what this entails and review the financial investment for treatment.  We know your time is valuable so if you would like to go forward with treatment we can obtain all the records needed to do so at your initial visit. For youngsters in the 7 to 12 year old range we may find that while treatment may be or will definitely be needed in the future, we are not quite ready to begin at this time. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including the need for more permanent teeth to erupt, the need for us to monitor growth, the need for oral hygiene to improve or the need for us to coordinate with your general dental provider. In these cases, we enter you into our complimentary Growth Guidance Program

What is our Growth Guidance Program?

While sometimes early treatment is needed in our young patients, many times we recognize that we are not quite ready to begin. Our Growth Guidance program is designed for patients in the 7 to 12 year old range who may need or likely will need treatment in the future. We monitor the need for treatment at 6 to 12 month intervals – these visits are very similar to your initial consultation, we update photographs and x-rays as needed, and discuss changes that have occurred over the past months. Our goal with these appointments is to monitor your child so that we can initiate treatment when it will be the most effective. This whole program and all appointments are complimentary to you. If after years of monitoring we decide treatment is not needed, you graduate from us free of charge and we rest easy knowing your child has a healthy mouth; we are simply happy to have made another friend in you.

What is the Cost of the Treatment?

The cost of treatment depends upon the severity of the patient’s problem. Our treatment coordinator will discuss fees and payment options if treatment is recommended We have different payment plans to suit your needs and accept assignment from most insurance plans. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable.

What Does my Investment Include?

Your investment includes:

  • Orthodontic records including x-rays and photographs and a personalized growth study workup by our Doctors to determine and meet the treatment objectives.
  • Active treatment fee for both early treatment options and complete comprehensive treatment with braces or Invisalign includes all appliances, office visits, and procedures performed in the office.
  • Final retainers are provided upon completion of treatment.

What Doesn’t my Investment Include?

  • Work performed at other dental offices outside our orthodontic practice.

Assignment of Benefits

We accept assignment of benefits for most insurance plans. By doing this, the family’s out-of-pocket expense can be substantially lower. If we do not accept assignment of benefits from your plan, we will be happy to file all claims so that you can be reimbursed directly. Should there be any change in your policy prior to full payment of the insurance benefit, please contact our office immediately so adjustments may be made to your contract.

Office Hours

It is our goal to see you, on time, for your appointment. Time is scheduled to complete the necessary procedure, give information about the treatment and answer any questions you may have. In order for us to maintain a schedule that runs in a timely manner, we request that patients arrive on time to avoid delays, as the day progresses. Your cooperation and consideration with appointments is greatly appreciated by our office and the patients that are seen after your appointment.
